This week our youth pastor, Chris Duran, announced that he will be taking a position on staff at Life Church in Oklahoma, effective February 1st. Chris and his wife BreeAnn are sad to leave Alpine but are excited about this new calling that they sense is from God. Alpine Church will miss the great leadership of the Durans, but we send them off with our blessing. We will have a send-off party on Wednesday night at 7 pm at the West Haven campus.

We believe that the adult and student leaders of Fusion are well-prepared to handle a transition in youth as Pastor Chris leaves. The pastoral team at Alpine has already begun brainstorming and planning with these leaders to build upon the foundation that Chris has helped to lay. We have full confidence that Fusion will grow and flourish as the year advances.

Please continue to pray for our students and their leaders, and pray for the Durans as they prepare for a new adventure.

Quiet Time and Prayer Tips

This is an opportunity to come connect with God. Take an hour out of your week to quiet yourself, talk to God, and listen to Him. At QT, you’ll come into a dimly lit sanctuary, where worship music is playing and verses are on the screens to help you respond to God. There is an opportunity to have someone pray with you at the end if you would like. You are welcome to go to QT at any of our campuses. These days and times are consistent, so join us at your next opportunity.

Why do we use coffee in our advertising? The truth is, it’s not about the coffee.

Yes, you’ll notice the cafe feel as soon as you walk into our lobby. But Alpine Church is not about coffee or guitars. It’s all about Jesus – and you’ll hear that as the band strikes up the first song. Everything we do – from the music to the message – is about learning more about connecting to Jesus and his life-changing message.

So the coffee’s good, but it’s not about the coffee.

Although you can take Foundations on your own here online, we encourage everyone to go through the material with others in a group or class. 101 and 201 will take 6 weeks, and 301 is a 6-month Bible reading plan that can be tailored to the groups needs. Women’s Bible Studies

Each quarter we offer women’s studies at each campus. All women are invited to join us at any of our classes near you. This is a great opportunity to connect with other women and grow in your relationship with God. Here are a list of our upcoming classes available.

Layton:

Beginning Sunday, January 22, at 9:00 am – “Foundations.” Sheri Hamilton and Amy Linden will us through this extended version of Foundations, just for women.

Beginning Thursday, January 26, at 9:30 am at our Riverdale campus – “Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed: A Study of David” by Priscilla Shrier, Beth Moore, and Kay Arthur. This is at the Riverdale Campus (see sidebar for directions). Erin Schorr and Melanie Creps will lead us through this study. Childcare provided.

Logan:

Beginning Tuesday, January 24, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm – “Faithful, Abundant, and True” by Kay Arthur, Priscilla Shrier, and Beth Moore. Marilyn Koehler will lead us through this study.

Beginning Thursday, January 26, from 9:30 – 11:30 am – “Faithful, Abundant, and True” by Kay Arthur, Priscilla Shrier, and Beth Moore. Childcare is provided. Marilyn Koehler will lead us through this study.

Riverdale:

Beginning Sunday, January 22, at 9:00 am – “James: Mercy Triumphs” by Beth Moore. Stephanie Bobo and Lisa Erwin will lead us through this study.

West Haven:

Beginning Sunday, January 22, at 11:00 am – “Brave: Honest Questions Women Ask” by Angela Thomas. Christi Linscott will lead us through this study.

Tom and Marina Koehler

Tom and Marina have been in Utah since 1997. They retired from the USAF in 2002 and planted Christ Community Church which merged with Alpine in 2011. They have 5 children and 4 adorable grandchildren who have joyfully come to take center stage in much of their lives.

Tom is from Two Rivers, WI and misses his family but not the humidity. He’s devoted to Jesus but the Green Bay Packers are in close second. He enjoys golf, hunting, camping and anything else that includes friends and family. Marina was born in Germany but raised in the US. Since all the children live in the area, her life and home is always full of activity.

Brent and Suzy Hinsley

Brent has been working with youth in Utah since 1998. He grew up in Southern California, where he worked as a junior high youth pastor, lived and served the homeless in the inner city and worked at Christian summer camps for youth groups. Brent’s undergraduate degree is in pastoral ministries from Vanguard University. He earned his Master of Christian Education in Youth Ministry from Talbot Theological Seminary.

Brent and his wife Suzy have two grade school age children. Suzy is the school counselor at Ogden Preparatory Academy and somehow still finds time to be the greatest mom in the world. Brent enjoys hiking, rock climbing, and coaching his son’s outdoor and indoor soccer teams to total domination.

Ross and Nancy Anderson

Ross joined the Alpine team in 2011 as a Teaching Pastor, after pastoring and starting new churches in Utah since 1983. Nancy teaches high school math and physics.

Ross and Nancy were both raised in California, where they met in college. They enjoy travel and great stories. Ross likes sports, bicycling, reading, and history. Nancy is a great cook and loves helping women experience God’s love. They have raised two children and live in Roy.

Ian Abbott

Ian is currently serving in the areas of worship and youth ministry at the Logan campus. He comes all the way from Cache Valley and after attending school in Portland, OR and then in Sydney, Australia for further schooling with Hillsong Church, he has discovered a new passion for the beauty and adventure Utah offers.

When he’s not hiking and backpacking in his free time, he can often be found quoting lines from “Nacho Libre”, one of his favorite movies.
